Rock Rhythm with Lead
Paul Gilbert often talks about rhythm perception. This is an understanding of rhythm away from your instrument (i.e. by clapping a rhythm). Paul Gilbert mixed lead and rhythm with his first band Racer X and this lesson draws on this approach.

6/8 Ballad Rhythm
These lessons focus on creating a strong ballad feel. In this case we will use a time signature of 6/8. This means that the bar length is six 1/8th notes long. You should count this as '1&2&3&'. With this time signature in place the piece takes on a very focused ballad feel similar to songs such as Still Got The Blues by Gary Moore.
